Above is a montage of experiments produced on this course.
left to right:
1) Gilded cut letters (about 10mm high);
2 & 8) Pricked paper painted with PVA glue and gilded.
3 & 4) Lettering onto gold using gouache;
5) Watercolour wash over gold and gold on gouache;
6, 7 & 9) Variations of gilding & coppering over good quality wax crayon - Caran d'Ache and then applying a sgraffitto technique. Oil pastels may also be used, but good quality crayons gives a smoother surface.
We also worked with traditional gilding onto gum ammoniac, and did lettering with Schmincke metallic powder mixed with gum arabic.
The gold was 23carat gold.
Watch this space for the Klimt project course!
