Gothic birthday card

I'm sure my sister never looks at my blog (why would sisters look at blogs?), so I can quite safely show her birthday card.

I completed it in photoshop after handwriting Happy Birthday with a Speedball decorative nib and scanning it. Most calligraphic styles would have competed with the design or merged and this one just "sits on top". Actually the words in Gothic watercolour saying happy birthday are quite difficult to read – even for me; so it's an abstract. My cards have "backs" and to do this, I mirrored the design and lightened it with a corn coloured layer on top with an opacity of about 30%. This really re-inforces the textural beauty and abstract possibilities of Gothic.

Now I must get it into the post…
