It's holiday time and my brother Des has been here from Australia.
We did a one day-outing to the "Town of Books", Hay on Wye.
Well, first of all, the shop at the parking spot offers the best fudge ever!
But then for some real culture - the bookshops. You have to start at the converted cinema which has an overwhelming 200,000 volumes from cheap nasties to wonderful antique and rare books.
There are 30 major bookshops, mostly stocking second hand books and many with "over-runs" which is a change from when the town had 34 pubs (in the 16th century or thereabouts) It is a charming little village with the steep hills, old buildings and a castle in the centre.
I loved the delightful names such as the crime bookshop called "Murder and Mayhem" , the art and craft gallery called "The Haymakers" and the baby shop called "Hay Baby".
We had a delicious pub lunch, mooched around shops and did some real shopping and lots of window shopping and wishful thinking.
