Oxford Summer School
A is for Ox: 2 day; 25 - 26 July 2011
"A" began life as a pictogram for an ox!
We will experiment with creating word designs using alternative tools such as sticks, ink droppers, metal stamps, and pointed pens. Words can be added to artworks using poetry and prose.

Untradtional Gilding with letters
3 days; 27 - 29 July 2011
In creative loosely painted work, a smudge of gold is appropriate, or perhaps a small area of gold with writing over it as part of a textural background. Real gold, gold ink and Dutch metal is used in a modern way to enhance work.

Banbury WEA
Uncials and fabulous Celtic Creatures 
13th September - 11 October 2011: 5 weekss

Learn calligraphy the easy way with Uncials, which is accessible and fun; with mini projects and Celtic weaving designs, inspired by the fabulous creatures in the book of Kells.

Making Little Books at Home

What if you went on holiday with only the basics of your art materials and a box of watercolours? Working with watercolour techniques; using line, shape, tone, texture and colour, you will end up with a series of mini-masterpieces in the form of postcards.

Kilian's work is epitomised by classical simplicity with an underlying tension within every letter. We will begin with classical letters and move on to minimalist and modern letters to create an exciting piece of work.

Skating on Thin Ice with Watercolours
21st January: I day – Gloucestershire Scribes
Watercolours splash, run and mix and generally take on a life of their own. They are also wonderful in calligraphy for their translucency and subtlety. We will explore colour ranges by mixing colours and consider the versatility of watercolour in calligraphy.
