This is from my Photo Album series. My parents married 65 years ago on the 23rd January 1947. I am planning a workshop titled "Memories" for an embroiderer's guild. The workshop was requested after the embroiderer saw this series.
My challenges are going to be to help people combine a photograph on fabric with a style of lettering that can be appliqued or stitched. If you look back at the 9th January you'll see a sampler of stitched lettering and I have some other lettering ideas which you'll see over the next few days. My immediate issue has been getting a photo onto fabric aesthetically.
In "To have and to hold" the image was scanned and printed onto Chinese rice paper which I had laminated to a kind of waxy paper by ironing so that it would go through the inkjet printer. It was fixed using artist''s fixative and then gently removed and was glued to stretched paper with wheat starch glue. (I am not sure about the archival implications but it's for my own collection)
