I don't think I'm that competitive - I mean I really don't mind not having the smartest sofa or winning all the prizes, but when it comes to family games of monopoly and such, I COMPETE!
Anyway my daughters planned a scavenger hunt. Why am I telling you this? Well all sorts of creativity should be enjoyed and designing a hunt like this is such a good idea.
So Dave headed up the one team and I headed up the other (by dint of age I think)
This is how it went:
We were each given a paper bag with a sheet of quests, a box of chalk and a £10 note.
In addition to this we had to take photos and have them printed at Boots to prove our success. We also had to produce all receipts.
1. Find
a street name that uses all the first-name initials of your team
3. Design
some pavement art (can you earn a tip?)
4. Take
a rubbing from a gravestone - can you make an anniversary message?
5. Buy
a kitschy postcard of Dartmouth
6. Have
a photo of your team sharing an ice-cream
7. Find
free edible items (a packet of sugar, blackberries etc.)
Now just look at my team's
offerings compared to their pathetic three little berries.
10. Take a photo of
Richard’s grandfather’s grave
11. Buy
a souvenir from Kingswear (no more than £2.00)
This involved a ferry trip
to the castle where we also did the rubbings. They bribed the ferryman to take
them to Kingswear to get a souvenir. We looked for one in Dartmouth on the other side of the river
dart. We found souvenirs from other places but not Kingswear, so I made one – written on a magnet crab. I confessed and was Disqualified and Disgraced!
12. Make a paper
boat and sail it on the river Dart (evidence required)
13. Pose
with a red-headed stranger for a photo
14. Find a red anniversary gift for Dave and Lin - not more than £2.00. The necklace was
very sweet and just went over the budget. It was strung without the silver on red string, so the next day I had it restrung at the bead shop. We had the Dartmouth rock and love
hearts.
15.
Find an antique for under £2.00.
16.
Find a heart shaped leaf.
17.
Make a collection of 20 similar objects.
"Please remember David and Lin" |
"Loved husband beloved wife, reserved 4 each other" |
While we were out hunting I kept finding things and saying "Well, let's keep that for a back-up" and it began to feel like our motto - i.e. we can do better if we try harder. The other team's motto according to Megan was
Great fun was had by all. Later that afternoon a frigate arrived in the harbour and that evening there were fireworks as part of the regatta.
Blog Update: This blog is getting refurbished and moving address soon to www.limetreesstudio.com. It is written for people who like to think creatively and enjoy visual information. It's filled with things I find inspiring and "behind the scenes" info and tips. Obviously it's biased towards my interests of lettering arts, printmaking and watercolours. Because I'm a real person you'll also find it seasonal, celebrating feasts, holidays, family and friends.
We are changing the look slightly and the address to www.limetreesstudio.com. Early next year we'll be launching the Limetrees Club, where members who join can download pdf's of tutorials, created by me and some other professional tutors. We'll launch with calligraphy, bookbinding, alphabet design, watercolour basics and Creative Inspiration (Find your artist). There'll be a members' gallery and forum. And the blog will still continue as usual for members and non-members.
Then there will also be a professional gallery which will sell artworks and letterworks by artists.
Hopefully this will be launched by mid-November, in time for Christmas
What great *creative* fun you all had! I'm loving all your posts. I may just feel inspired enough to (re)start my own blog when I get back from Manchester next week!
