Ruby Week2 - and then Simon Drew

This blog is getting refurbished and moving address soon to www.limetreesstudio.com - see at the base of this post for more details.

One morning Nicky and Izzy made breakfast for nine people - bacon butties. Yum yum.

Dartmouth is delightful - lots of narrow steep walks and many steps to get back up from the little shops and harbour. It was busy as this was regatta week and is height of the tourist season. The villagers don't take trade for granted and they all work very hard and are really friendly. Summer has to sustain the winter!

I was delighted to find that Simon Drew has a shop in the village. I came across his work many years ago and I love it. His puns aren't groaning in agony. They're clever and he carries them off in style with meticulous, humorous drawing and beautiful handwritten titles. In fact his work ticks the box on my quest for handwritten lettering that harmonises with imagery.

Here he is Himself, dressed to the nines for a busy day in his yellow polka dot shorts and matching waistcoat. Thank you Simon for letting me show your work and posing for me!

On his website he states: Simon has always said that his aim is to follow the maxim of Paul Klee who tried not to “reproduce the visible but to make visible”. However he has usually ended up producing nonsense and has been described as “half artist, half wit”.

In the shop were some other fantastic artefacts and functional art, like these teapots by Ross Emerson.

Oh and we also went to Agatha Christie's house by ferry. What a lovely day out!

Blog Update: This blog is written for people who like to think creatively and enjoy visual information. It's filled with things I find inspiring and "behind the scenes" info and tips. Obviously it's biased towards my interests of lettering arts, printmaking and watercolours.  Because I'm a real person you'll also find it seasonal, celebrating feasts, holidays, family and friends.

We are changing the look slightly and the address to www.limetreesstudio.com. Early next year we'll be launching the Limetrees Club, where members who join can download pdf's of tutorials, created by me and some other professional tutors. We'll launch with calligraphy, bookbinding, alphabet design, watercolour basics and Creative Inspiration (Find your artist). There'll be a members' gallery and forum. And the blog will still continue as usual for members and non-members.

Then there will also be a professional gallery which will sell artworks and letterworks by artists.

Hopefully this will be launched by mid-November, in time for Christmas
