The Bayshore

For the first few days in Singapore we stayed with our son and family in their condo. on the East coast. They are on the 13th floor and the all-glass wall of their bedroom looks down on this incredible swimming pool.

It is typical of so much in Singapore – super clean and luxurious design. This view of the pool is only a part of the pool complex which meanders through a jacuzzi spot, shallow pool, under bridges and around waterfalls; interpersed with palms, orchids and spider lilies. I often think of David Hockney's wonderful swimming pool series when I see amazing pools. With an average daily temperature of 30 degrees, we swam a lot.

Here is a little watercolour sketch where I was trying to capture the colours of some of the palms. The red is unbelievably accurate – it is neat Quinacridone Red with a little Cadmium scarlet, plus shadows.
