Wrapping up the year 2012

I hope that when you look back at your year you can say that you are well pleased with it.
Of course for some of you, you really need this year to be water under the bridge. We all have really tough years at times. When that happens it is so important to be gentle on yourself if you have not had great creative output and just remember that hey, you survived the year!

I like to do stocktaking – it helps me recognise what caused my disappointments and helps me to work out if it's within my control to change things for the New Year. I'll run through my creative stocktaking here and tomorrow chat about my new year's plans, hopes and ambitions.

My 5-year plan
At the beginning of 2012, I mapped out a five-year plan of where I want to be in 2017.
1) Teaching adults lettering related art skills at selected summer schools.
2) Engaged with the local artistic community, exhibiting at Artweeks and in local galleries as a Lettering Artist / Fine Artist.
3) Have a good Fine Art portfolio and a good lettering portfolio.
4) Produce my Magnus Opus - "Rope of Words"
5) Communicate, teach, reflect and inspire others via the blog.

Here is most of my completed 2012 work in pictures and I was very happy with my output. It has been a good productive year in which I have been blessed with an excellent support system (Thanks, Dave).

Calligraphic works 2012

Watercolour paintings 2012
 My 10 highlights have been:
1) Brush lettering on silk using metallic paint.
2) Designing the lower case of my own font – Elva.
3) Exhibiting with Letter Exchange and All that Glisters.
4) Working with gold backgrounds, pencil and watercolour as a combination.
5) Joining Oxford printmakers to see where it takes me.
6) Joining some professional artists once a month to do fione art.
7) Joining a drop-in untutored lifedrawing group once a month.
8) Producing a portfolio of flower paintings for cards & exhibting them.
9) Beginning my artists' book Rope of Words
10) Maintaining a blog five days a week throughout the year.

Unfinished Works to carry over into 2013:
Church design of a logo - the represents the church design work.
Vesica Pisces - this work and the Book
Art, Calligraphy and Geometry
Rope of Words
My disappointments for this year have been:
1) Not finishing the book I'm writing "Art, Calligraphy and Geometry"
2) Getting sidetracked by taking on smallish projects which I get obsessive about and turn into big projects.
3) Allowing the watercolours to become a bit too tight / realistic.

Happy 2013

  1. Dear Linn
This is so wonderful. All the very best for 2013. Your blog has been an inspiration. Your watercolours and calligraphy stunning and most desirable.A five year plan... that is a nice idea.... rather than one year....thanks so much. Bev
