It’s a real surprise to be in a subway that resembles a prestigious corporation – no advertsing, no litter and no eating, just huge immaculate tiled walls. Well, the subway at Chinatown didn't quite make the grade but elsewhere it did.
The subway station at Little India had these fantastic naïve murals – each of these six designs, plus others was on the inside face of a flat column of a mezzanine walkway, so you could enjoy them as you went up the escalator. (Sorry about the blurry focus).
I really liked the cut off decorative top which looked as though it could have continued for another "carpet". The design seems to have undergone a triple interpretation from child-drawing to adult placement or design intervention, to woven carpet which was then enlarged and used photographically on tiles. The process was hardly naïve, yet the outcome was fabulous.
