Julia Vance - letter sculptor

My new blog address will probably be active by Monday or Tuesday: www.limetreesstudio.co.uk

Julia Vance will be addressing us at the next letter Exchange lecture on the 14th November. She does such exciting work - this first example is the word "og" which in Norwegian and Swedish means "and"

Julia Vance
The lecture is titled Peeling Stone and she says:
“I create letter shapes or a part of a letter. By expressing a third dimension in our two dimensional world of lettering and words, I seek form for the eyes and food for thought.”
Julia extracts the letter from its background to give her letters an independent presence. Using her word-sculptures, she plays philosophically with basic words like ‘we’ and ‘time’, giving the word an expressive body in materials such as marble or bronze. Julia will talk about her work in Pietrasanta, where she works her way into, under and behind the letters.
Julia Vance works between Oslo in Norway and Pietrasanta in Italy. She has state commissions and lectures and exhibits internationally.
